Florida State University strives to instill the strength, skill, and character essential for lifelong learning, personal responsibility and sustained achievement within a community that fosters free inquiry and embraces diversity. One of the tenants of the Division of Student Affairs, which houses FSU's Healthy Campus Initiative, is to assist students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
The focus of Healthy Campus at FSU includes alcohol; eating disorders and body image; mental health; nutrition, fitness and sleep; sexual health; sexual violence prevention and tobacco and other drug prevention. Currently, five teams address these priority health and safety areas. Each Healthy Campus team meets monthly to address initiatives; current concerns and issues; and status of ongoing programs. Meeting minutes are posted monthly, all team reports are sent out twice a semester and all teams meet together each semester. Each team consists of approximately 20-25 members and overall Healthy Campus team meetings have the potential for nearly 100 participants. These larger (but less frequent) meetings are a time for each team to showcase highlights, initiatives and future plans with others.
The American College Health Association's Healthy Campus 2020 goals and objectives provide a framework for FSU's Healthy Campus initiatives. Intentional identification of relevant initiatives addressing areas of health concerns are prioritized and specific, measurable objectives are created to address the needs of FSU students while at the same time allowing us to benchmark our progress with other universities.
Mission
The Healthy Campus initiative at FSU collectively combines the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual development and prioritizes a collective, strategic approach through the Healthy Campus Initiative by identifying specific healthy campus objectives; evaluating student health and safety data; identifying best practices and evidenced-based methods; and evaluating outcomes.
